Workshop on Physical Layer Implementation of Wireless Standards

In the past few decades, there have been many wireless standards ratified for the use of personal and military communication systems. The performance of these systems depends on how effectively one implements the phsyical layer algorithms of the particular standard. This workshop aims at showcasing  innovative solutions to challenging problems in the implementation of physical layer wireless standards like WLAN, WAVE, LTE, DVB etc. The list of challenges includes meeting the standard compliance tests at the transmitter, latency requirements at the receiver, low complexity timing synchronization, spectrum management etc. The workshop also covers estimation and compensation of RF impairments to address the practical receiver performance issues.  The workshop provides a common platform for researchers and practitioners to present their latest research ideas in the physical layer implementation of the following topics:

  • Timing synchronization algorithms which address the performance, complexity and latency issues
  • Estimation and compensation techniques for different RF impairments
  • Blind modulation classification algorithms
  • Design of energy detection, preamble  detection and automatic gain control (AGC) algorithms
  • Digital predistorter techniques 
  • Acquisition and reacquisition in satellite communication systems
  • Spectrum sensing techniques in wideband transmission 
  • Reduced complexity Multiple input Multiple output (MIMO)  decoders
  • MIMO channel modeling, link adaptation techniques and MIMO mode selection
  • Spatial modulation and demodulation techniques
  • Soft log likelihood ratio (LLR ) demappers
  • Addressing interoperability issues 
  • Data aided and non-data aided channel estimation algorithms
  • Channel equalization algorithms
  • Complexity  and Performance trade offs.
  • RADAR detection algorithms for wireless LAN
  • PAPR reduction techniques

All papers that conform to submission guidelines will be peer reviewed and evaluated based on originality, technical and/or research content/depth, correctness, relevance to conference, contributions, and readability. The manuscripts should be submitted in PDF format. Acceptance of papers will be communicated to authors by email. At least one full paying author of each accepted paper must register for the Conference before the indicated deadline. Accepted and presented papers will be published in the conference proceedings and submitted to IEEE Xplore as well as other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases.
