Speaker: Dr. Sriparna Saha, Indian Institute of Technology Patna, India

Tentative Title of Talk: Multiobjective Optimization for Clustering and Classification

Biography: Dr. Sriparna Saha received the M.Tech and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata, Kolkata, India, in 2005 and 2011, respectively. She is currently a Faculty Member in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Patna, Patna, India. She is the author of a book published by Springer-Verlag. She has authored or coauthored more than 120 papers in reputed journals and conferences. Her current research interests include pattern recognition, multiobjective optimization, text-mining and bioinformatics. Her h-index is 19 and total citation count of her papers is 2313 (according to Google scholar). She is a senior member of IEEE.

Dr. Sriparna is the recipient of the Lt Rashi Roy Memorial Gold Medal from the Indian Statistical Institute for outstanding performance in MTech (computer science), Google India Women in Engineering Award, 2008, NASI YOUNG SCIENTIST PLATINUM JUBILEE AWARD 2016, BIRD Award 2016 and IEI Young Engineers' Award 2016,  Humboldt Research Fellowship, CNRS fellowship. She had also received India4EU fellowship of the European Union to work as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in the University of Trento, Italy from September 2010-January 2011. She was also the recipient of Erasmus Mundus Mobility with Asia (EMMA) fellowship of the European Union to work as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in the Heidelberg University, Germany from September 2009-June 2010. She had visited University of Mainz, Germany as a visiting scientist during the period April-September 2016, April-September 2017; University of Caen, France as a visiting professor during the period October 2013, December 2013, May-July, 2014 and May-June, 2015 and University of Trento, Italy as a visiting scientist during December, 2013. She won the best paper awards in CLINICAL-NLP workshop at COLING 2016, IEEE-INDICON 2015, and International Conference on Advances in Computing, Communications and Informatics (ICACCI 2012).  Recently she had been chosen as Associate Editor of ACM Transactions on Asian and Low Resource Language Information Processing. This is a prestigious forum in NLP, ML, AI.  One of her papers in the journal "Data and Knowledge Engineering" titled "Combining multiple classifiers using vote based classifier ensemble technique for named entity recognition" received the tag of "most downloaded article".

Speaker: Dr. Sushmita Ruj, Cryptology and Security Research Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata

Biography:  Sushmita Ruj is an Assistant Professor at Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. She received her B.E. degree from Indian Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, India and Masters and Ph.D. from Indian Statistical Institute, India, all in Computer Science. She was a Erasmus Mundus Post Doctoral Fellow at Lund University, Sweden, Post Doctoral Fellow at University of Ottawa, Canada. She was an Assistant Professor at Indian Institute of Technology, IIT, Indore. She was a visiting researcher at NTU, Singapore, KDDI R&D Labs, Japan, University of Wollongong, Australia, INRIA, France, Kyushu University, Japan and has been on short visits to many universities around the world. 
Her research interests are in applied cryptography, security and network analysis. She is currently working on blockchains, cryptocurrencies, cloud security, security and privacy in IoT, mobile ad hoc networks, vehicular networks, smart grids. Sushmita has served as Program Co-Chair for many IEEE/ ACM workshops and have served as TPC member of many top tier conferences. She won best paper awards at ISPA 2007 and IEEE PIMRC 2011. She received Samsung GRO award, NetApp Faculty Fellowship, Cisco University Research Grant. Sushmita is a Senior member of ACM and IEEE.  Details can be found on her website

Speaker: Dr. Lillykutty Jacob, Professor, Dept. of ECE, National Institute of Technology, Calicut, India

Tentative Title of Talk: Introduction to 5G Wireless Networks
Biography: Lillykutty Jacob obtained her B. Sc. (Engg.) degree from the Kerala University; M. Tech. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology at Madras; and PhD degree from the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore. She was with the department of Computer Science, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, S. Korea, during 1996-'97, as post-doc fellow; with the department of Computer Science, National University of Singapore, during 1998-2003, as visiting faculty; and with the department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of South Florida, during Jan-July 2012, as exchange visitor. Since 1985 she has been with the National Institute of Technology Calicut. She has got more than 150 publications in international journals and conferences, is a reviewer for several international journals and conferences, and is in the editorial board of a number of international journals.
Abstract: The talk will start with a brief overview of the evolution of wireless communications and roadmap of 5G evolution. It will continue with discussion on vision of 5G,  5G use cases, 5G spectrum, and 5G network architecture. The concept of 5G network slicing will then be introduced. A detailed discussion of the 5G air interface will also be done, which will cover: Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA); Millimeter Wave (mmWave); Massive MIMO; and Massive IoT. The talk will end with the use of low power WANS (LPWANs) for massive IoT.

Speaker: Dr. Jharna Majumdar, Centre for Robotics Research, Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Bangalore

Tentative Title of Talk: Advance Algorithms for Video Processing
Biography: Dr. Jharna Majumdar is currently the Dean R & D, Prof. and Head Dept of M Tech Comp Sc & Engg. and Head, Centre for Robotics Research at the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Bangalore. Dr. Majumdar served Defence Research and Development Organization, Min. of Defence, Govt. of India from 1990 to 2007 as Scientist G and Head of Aerial Image Exploitation Division, Aeronautical Development Establishment, Bangalore, India. She has more than 40 years of research experience in India and abroad. She worked as a Research Scientist on ‘Robotics and Automation’ at the Institute of Real Time Computer Systems and Robotics, Karlsruhe, Germany from 1983 to 1989 and as Research Scientist at the Stanford Research International California, USA in 2002. Dr. Majumdar has B Tech (Hons) in ECE, a Post Graduate in Computer Technology from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and PhD in Electrical Engg. from NIT Durgapur. Dr. Majumdar published more than 150 reviewed technical papers, has 4 Patents and received a large number of awards from DRDO and other organization. Some of her awards are: Award from President, Stanford Research International (SRI International), California, USA in 2002, Performance Excellence Award from the Prime Minister of India in 2004, Dr V M Ghatage award from Aeronautical Society of India in 2005, Dr. Suman Sharma Award from National Design and Research Forum (NDRF) in 2006, Dr. Kalpana Chawla Memorial Lecture Award in 2007, IEEE Award in 2011 and CESEM award from the Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST), Karnataka in 2016. She is a Fellow of the Aeronautical Society of India, Fellow of the Institution of Engineers and Life Member of the Computer Society of India.
Her project with Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the students from 7 Engineering Colleges to build the first Smallest Satellite in India of PICO Category has taken off to the orbit successfully on July 10 2010. Nitte Amateur Satellite Tracking Centre (NASTRAC) developed by a team of students from NMIT under her guidance is a patent and the First Tracking Station of Small Satellites in the country. The research team of Robotics under her guidance has received IEEE Award in 2011 and developed the First Robotic Exhibit at the Birla Science Centre Hyderabad on Jan 2012, which was inaugurated by Ex-President of India Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam. Research team of Robotics under her guidance is developing Humanoid Robots capable of Mimicking Human Facial Expression. Dr. Majumdar has brought large number of Funded Research Projects at NMIT from DRDO Laboratories, Dept. of Science & Technology, New Delhi, CESEM Award from Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST), Karnataka, VTU, Belgaum, IEEE USA. Her current research include development of algorithms for Image and Video Processing, Real Time Implementation on Embedded Boards, Control and Computer Vision for Robotics and other Autonomous System, Machine Learning and Data Mining. Abstract: With the rapid growth of Advanced Technology and the availability of affordable low-cost sensors coupled to high end computers, it is possible to capture video at a faster rate than ever before. The talk introduces the video processing methodologies and their wide variety of applications. Some of the topics covered will be Modeling of Transitions in Video; Video Shot Detection and Summarization; Human Detection, Tracking, Activity Recognition from Video for Robotics application; High End Defense applications like Registration and Mosaicking..
